When you learn about yet another parish or monastic community being expelled from its church or monastery, it is, of course, saddening. Now this unpleasant turn has also come for the sisters of the St. Nicholas Krupytsky Monastery (near Baturyn), since part of its buildings belongs to the National Preserve “Hetman’s Capital.”
We are currently witnessing yet another surge in discussions about the future of the Ukrainian Church. Alongside the voices of real participants, video and text imitations created by artificial intelligence in favor of the Russian Orthodox Church are being added—rapidly spreading and distorting the authentic voices of the Church. What is happening? Why is this dirty information war for Ukraine’s right to have its own Church being waged so harshly and brazenly?
When Patriarch Kirill speaks about a “civilizational choice” and the “awakening of the consciousness of Historical Rus’,” he is, in fact, referring not to spirituality but to geopolitical metaphysics — an attempt to justify empire through theology.
On a well-known online resource close to the Chancellor of the UOC, Metropolitan Antonii (Pakanych), a publication appeared titled: “The Chancellor: we do not understand the ‘brotherhoods’ that support persecutors of the Church.”

It is difficult to find words to describe the events that occurred yesterday, June 17, 2025, at the Holy Spirit Cathedral in Chernivtsi. The clash between believers of two Orthodox jurisdictions— the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) and the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU)—shocked all who long for unity and healing within the Church in Ukraine.
It is usually accepted to defend the corporate interests of the community you belong to; this is called “corporate solidarity.” People also say: “Don’t air your dirty laundry in public.”
If there’s one thing the leadership of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) can’t be denied, it’s their ability to treat almost any event — even one hardly deserving it — as a celebration.
So… the miracle didn’t happen. Today’s meeting and consultation of UOC bishops ended in yet another disappointment.
Speculation is growing in the public sphere about the possible convocation of a Council of Bishops of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) as early as tomorrow, May 27. What historic decision could this Council make?
Because the decisions made there were vague and ambiguous. And due to the procedure and format in which they were adopted, the Primate can unilaterally annul them at any moment.
