Filled with sacred emotion, we enter once again, by God’s goodwill, into Holy and Great Lent, the arena of ascetic struggle, the time of fasting and repentance, of humility and prayer, of spiritual vigilance and love, with the eyes of our heart directed to the life-giving Cross of the Lord, which guides us all toward Holy Pascha that opens the gates of Paradise to the human race.
If the Ecumenical Patriarchate does not intervene promptly, the situation in Ukraine risks becoming a pawn in political games. Without violating the Tomos of Autocephaly and without unnecessary conflicts, the Ecumenical Patriarchate could mediate for a permanent resolution of the ecclesiastical crisis in Ukraine by establishing a temporary Exarchate to “house” that part of Metropolitan Onuphry’s flock which wishes to sever ties with Moscow definitively but refuses to join the officially recognized Church of the country.

My presentation deals with the topic of human rights and just peace not from a legal but from an ecclesial perspective. What is it in the church that encourages or hinders the perception and appreciation of human rights and the establishment and maintenance of a just peace ensured by the observance of these rights?

The Sophia Brotherhood Department for Interfaith Dialogue announces that this week the Fourth Baptist-Orthodox Colloquium, titled “For the Life of the World: Baptists and Orthodox Towards a Common Witness,” will be held at the Huffington Ecumenical Institute of the Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology in Boston, from Tuesday to Wednesday, December 10-11.
