Sofia Brotherhood
The Brotherhood’s primary objective is to fully promote inter-Orthodox dialogue in order to achieve unity of Ukrainian Orthodoxy, consolidate efforts and support the initiatives of Orthodox Christians aimed at its development.
Members of the Brotherhood recognize as important the principles defined in the DECLARATION OF UNDERSTANDING, which was published after the meeting in St. Sophia Cathedral on July 5, 2022, as well as the provisions announced in the APPEAL of the dialogue participants dated February 20, 2023.
Brotherhood’s structure and governing bodies of the organization
VECHE (General meeting)
Veche (General meeting) – is the highest governing body of the Brotherhood. Veche can solve any issues of activity of the organization.
BOARD OF THE BROTHERHOOD
The Board of the Brotherhood is the governing body of the organization between the meetings of the Veche. The Board of the organization consists of 12 members elected from three groups of representatives of the UOC, OCU and other Local Orthodox Churches, 4 members from each group. Members of the Board of the Brotherhood are elected at the Veche for a term of three years.
CHAIRMAN OF THE BROTHERHOOD
The Chairman of the Board of the Brotherhood is elected from the Board at its meeting for 1 year and is re-elected every year so that one of the representatives of three groups – from the UOC, the OCU and other Local Churches – presides in turn.
The Chairman of the Board has the following powers:
– chairs meetings of the Board of the Brotherhood;
– represents the interests of the Brotherhood in government, local government, enterprises, institutions and organizations, in relations with individuals, as well as in relations with foreign institutions, organizations and citizens;
– determines the procedure for consideration of issues at meetings of the Board of the organization.
OFFICE OF THE BROTHERHOOD
The Office of the Brotherhood is the administrative executive body appointed by the Director of the Office of the Brotherhood to ensure the ongoing activities of the organization. The Office of the Brotherhood is entrusted with the performance of administrative, economic, organizational and technical functions to ensure the work and coordination of the organization.
DIRECTOR OF THE OFFICE
The director of the office of the Brotherhood manages the current activities of the organization:
– organizes the work of the Brotherhood Office;
– administers the property and funds of the organization within the limits established by the Board, concludes contracts and performs transactions, issues powers of attorney;
– opens and closes current and other accounts in bank institutions, has the right to first sign the banking and financial documents of the organization.
The Director of the Office is appointed and dismissed by the Board of the Brotherhood.
MEMBER OF THE BROTHERHOOD
A member of the Brotherhood has the right to:
– elect and be elected to all governing bodies of the Brotherhood;
– participate in the discussion of issues relating to the activities of the organization;
– make suggestions and comments on the activities of the Brotherhood;
– contact the governing bodies of the organization on its activities;
– participate in events organized by the Brotherhood;
– receive help from the organization;
– freely leave the members of the Brotherhood.
Members of the organization, in addition to entrance and membership fees, can voluntarily pay donations to the organization and provide irrevocable assistance, tangible and intangible values to achieve the goal and solve the tasks of the Brotherhood.
Members of the Brotherhood can be citizens of Ukraine, foreign citizens and stateless persons who have reached the age of 18, and share the principles and tasks of the Brotherhood, recognize and fulfill the provisions of the Charter of the Brotherhood, participate in the implementation of statutory tasks, meet the requirements and are accepted to the Brotherhood in the manner established by the Charter and internal documents of the Brotherhood.
Spheres of activity:
Dialogue
Promoting a dialogue between representatives of the Orthodox Churches to restore church unity in Ukraine.
Conciliarity
Promoting the revival of the principle of conciliarity in the Church life, enhancing the involvement of Orthodox clergy and believers in processes related to the development of Ukrainian Orthodoxy.
Enlightenment
Promoting Christian enlightenment through the following means:
- implementation of Orthodox missionary projects;
- organization of cultural and educational events;
- development of educational and research programs;
- research, restoring and spreading of spiritual and cultural tradition, liturgical-musical, architectural and iconographic heritage of Ukrainian (Kyiv) and Ecumenical Orthodoxy.
- investigating the history of development of Ukrainian and Church Slavonic languages and their use in worship.
Information
Formation of a unique information field through:
- establishment of printed mass media;
- creation of Internet resources,
- implementation of publishing, Internet and film projects;
- dissemination of information about NGO activities;
- promoting own ideas and goals;
- popularization of own activities;
- exposing the true essence of the ideology of the "Russian World," its anti-Church and anti-Ukrainian orientation and overcoming its negative impact on Ukrainian Orthodoxy.
Protection
Representing the interests of members of the Non-governmental organization to the bodies of church and state po cal self-government, individuals and legal entities, regardless of ownership, assistance in resolving issues of protecting their rights, freedoms and interests.
