Announcement: “For the Life of the World: Baptists and Orthodox Towards a Common Witness”

Dear friends,
The Sophia Brotherhood Department for Interfaith Dialogue announces that this week the Fourth Baptist-Orthodox Colloquium, titled “For the Life of the World: Baptists and Orthodox Towards a Common Witness,” will be held at the Huffington Ecumenical Institute at Hellenic College Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology in Boston, from Tuesday to Wednesday, December 10-11. The theme of discussion will be social teaching and spirituality in the two traditions. The event will be chaired by Dr. Brandon Gallaher and Dr. Elizabeth Newman of Duke University, and hosted by Fr. John Chryssavgis of the Huffington Ecumenical Institute.

The event will be live-streamed and recorded.

Ecumenical dialogue—in an era when the world is becoming increasingly politically absurd, with rising secularism in Europe alienating itself further from its religious roots, and Orthodox Christianity turning inward to the point of near suffocation, as evidenced by increasing fragmentation—holds crucial importance for the life of the Church and the welfare of society, which needs the moral insights of religion to flourish.

It is hoped that this dialogue will contribute to better mutual understanding and steps towards Christians becoming ever more united through discussions about how and why we engage with society, learning from one another, and growing in love.
